Experience Spotlight: The Road to Hana

At the core of every Excursionist holiday is an exceptional, potentially life-changing experience that opens our guests’ eyes, minds and hearts to the world around them. While we often use our newsletter to keep you updated on the latest travel trends and goings-on, this week, we’re zeroing in on our Road to Hana Adventure in Maui, Hawaii– one such experience that we feel illustrates the level of customer-service, expertise and customization that sets Excursionist apart from its competitors. Read on for an hour-by-hour customizable itinerary, then email us at [email protected] to plan your clients' next Hawaiian getaway.

Hotel Pickup & Breakfast

Rise early this morning, your driver guide will pick you up from your hotel in a stylish Mercedes Benz Sprinter, complete with leather captain seats and personal fridges. Kick off your day with a cup of local Maui coffee during breakfast at Charley’s Restaurant & Saloon in the mellow surfing town of Paia.

Rainbow Eucalyptus Grove

Stop to snap a photo among a grove of breathtaking rainbow eucalyptus trees; you will quickly see how these specimens earned their colorful name, as their ever-shedding paper-like bark gives way to myriad hues of blue, purple, orange and maroon.

The Keanae Peninsula

Visit the Ke’anae Peninsula, a traditional Hawaiian taro-growing village perched on a dramatic protruding lava finger. Take in the spectacular ocean views as you enjoy a mid-morning snack of fresh-from-the-vine tropical fruit and Aunty Sandy’s world-famous baked banana bread

Pua'a Ka'a State Park

Leave the crowds behind as you disembark for a short hike on an off-the-beaten-path nature trail that will lead you to a picturesque waterfall swimming hole. Feel free to enjoy a refreshing dip before continuing onwards on your journey.

Wai’anapanapa State Park

For many, Wai’anapanapa will surely be one of the day’s highlights. Offering lush green valleys, striking volcanic features such as blowholes and lava tube ponds, and one of Hawaii’s most spectacular black-sand beaches, this state park resembles a bona fide Garden of Eden.

Lunch at Travaasa Hana

Completing the last leg of your journey, arrive in the town of Hana in time for a gourmet lunch at the Preserve Dining Room and Bar’s elegant open-air dining room. Delight in local Hawaiian farm-to-table fare accompanied by sweeping views of Kauiki Hill and Hana Bay.

Hana Town Center

Relatively untouched by tourist development, Hana Town is praised by locals as offering a taste of “Real Hawaii.” Enjoy time at leisure to wander through its sleepy streets, visiting the Hana Cultural Center & Museum, the frozen-in-time Hasegawa General Store, and the mythical Ka'uiki Pu'u Hill.

Departure/Helicopter Tour

Round out the day’s adventure with a combination helicopter tour and transfer. Admire eastern Maui’s natural splendor from a novel vantage point as you spot cascading waterfalls and remote mountain valleys inaccessible by foot or car, before landing at the Kahului Heliport and being privately transferred to your hotel by roughly 5:30pm. Aloha!
